THE GIRL COAT EDIT

Here it is, my girls winter coat edit (boy version will be up in the next couple of days too).

I’m of the opinion that kids need several coats:

  • A casual/nursery/waterproof type one – I love classic raincoats for this – my kids have both had THIS Trotters one, which gets passed down from eldest to youngest (but is currently missing at nursery as of earlier this week so fingers crossed it comes back to us). Then brands like Muddy Puddles and Petit Bateau are great options – there’s always a few good ones on the high street too. I usually opt for yellow or navy.
  • A day coat – one that can carry over from every day to slightly smarter. Obviously, there can be crossovers, an extra fancy coat etc… but as a basic wardrobe essential I’d say these are the two styles you need. So, the below is an edit of the day-to-slightly-smarter coats because I don’t think anyone needs to see pics of 12 identical raincoats!

I love little girls in heritage, traditional coats. La Coqueta’s is a favourite but how good value is the JoJo one? Pea coats are a classic. Then the more ‘trend’ coats I think are just charming at the moment – fluffy styles, teddy coats, pink and camel colours, boyish shapes. There’s literally something for every girl regardless of age.

Now I initially had 70+ coats in this edit (across boys + girls) so I’ve really narrowed it down to my very favourite styles. If my daughter didn’t already have a beautiful coat from Wild & Gorgeous that I bought in the sale for about £40 two years ago in her current size (the softest grey wool with a faux fur collar – it’s dreamy, honestly buying winter coats in the sales in a bigger size is a must) I’d have snapped up several. Probably starting with the Jigsaw pink coat, a Zara number or the Bobo Choses sheepskin which I just adore.

Also, not yet in stores but available to pre-order online is this super cute leopard print coat from Next. It’s sure to be a bestseller. From £32 in sizes 3-16yrs.
